In smokers' blood, there are high levels of Carbon Monoxide (CO) present - it is a scientific fact. Do you know, what risk a high level of CO holds for the health?
Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless toxic gas, which is produced in large amounts during the burning of various materials (like fuels, wood, coal, etc). Consequently, inhaling huge amounts of CO causes intoxication.
The usage of conventional tobacco is a great example that shows the impact of CO on the human body.
During the burning, cigarettes release more than 6000 harmful toxins, including Carbon Monoxide. When CO is inhaled, it enters the bloodstream through the lungs and reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen to the body, affecting the brain, heart, and muscles.
Then, how the levels of Carbon Monoxide can be reduced in the body?
Scientific research shows that burning tobacco causes the release of high levels of Carbon Monoxide alongside other toxic chemicals.
However, compared to conventional cigarettes, IQOS doesn’t burn tobacco, instead, it uses heating technology, producing on average 98% less Carbon Monoxide and significantly lower levels of other harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes[1].
Therefore, switching completely to IQOS significantly reduces the level of Carbon Monoxide in the body compared to continued smoking.
However, this does not necessarily mean that IQOS reduces the risks by 98%. The reason is that Carbon Monoxide is only one of many harmful chemicals present in a cigarette smoke.
Despite this fact, we all agree, the best choice any smoker can make is to quit tobacco and nicotine use altogether. However, for those legal-age smokers, who otherwise would continue to smoke, IQOS represents the best alternative, as converting to IQOS reduces Carbon Monoxide and the level of otherharmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.*
Wandering how to measure the levels of Carbon Monoxide in the body?
In order to measure the levels of Carbon Monoxide in the body, the CO Meter Test was created, which enables smokers to measure the concentration of CO in their exhaled breath.
It should be noted that the device only indicates the levels of CO in exhaled breath, and is not used for medical purposes, as it does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevents any disease.
Carbon Monoxide Tests can be done at IQOS official retail store free of charge. To see the adresses, visit the link and tag “CO Meter”.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: IQOS is not risk free, and provides nicotine which is addictive.
[1] We measured the levels of certain harmful chemicals prioritized for reporting by renowned public health organizations, and these are reduced on average by 95% compared to the smoke of cigarettes (nicotine excluded). This does not mean a 95% reduction in risk.
