HOW IQOS WORKS?

The burning of tobacco emits high levels of harmful chemicals that are associated with smoking-related diseases. Our patented HeatControl™ Technology prevents tobacco from burning. IQOS heats tobacco to a much lower temperature. Smoke is a complex mixture of over 6,000 chemicals substances. Almost 100 of them have been identified as harmful or potentially harmful. IQOS does not burn, which means it doesn’t produce smoke. IQOS produces tobacco vapor.

Tested to the highest standards

IQOS has gone through robust scientific assessments, including, to date, 18 non-clinical and 10 clinical studies involving thousands of participants. The totality of evidence available shows that, while IQOS use is not risk-free, switching completely to IQOS presents less risk. Do you want to find out why we can conclude this? IQOS produces an aerosol that is fundamentally different from cigarette smoke and consists of significantly lower levels of harmful chemicals.* The residue from IQOS aerosol has a much less complex chemical composition than that of cigarette smoke and no carbon-based solid particles. * Average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to cigarette smoke.
However, IQOS is not risk-free and provides nicotine, which is addictive.
Tar refers to the weight of the residue from cigarette smoke when a cigarette is burnt, minus water and nicotine. IQOS does not produce tar because it heats tobacco instead of burning it.

Carbon monoxide is produced in large amounts when some things burn, like tobacco in cigarettes. Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless toxic gas. IQOS doesn’t burn tobacco, but heats it, producing on average 98% less carbon monoxide and significantly lower levels of other harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes*. 
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This does not mean a 98% reduction in risk. IQOS is not risk-free, and delivers nicotine which is addictive.
*We measured the levels of certain harmful chemicals prioritized for reporting by renowned public health organizations, and these are reduced on average by 95% compared to the smoke of cigarettes (nicotine excluded). This does not mean a 95% reduction in risk.

IQOS doesn’t produce tar it produces aerosol residue because with HeatControl™ technology IQOS heats tobacco instead of burning it. In our Service Centers you can find the science machine and see the fundamental difference between aerosol residue and tar.

Heated tobacco sticks sold in Georgia are manufactured by the Philip Morris's European factory.


Both HEETS tobacco sticks and IQOS™ devices are manufactured by high quality standards and controls.


We carry out fairly intensive quality control procedures to be able to deliver quality products to our legal-age customers, regardless of the country of manufacture.

Tobacco taste

What you experience with HEETS™ is the taste of tobacco, which is heated, instead of burning.

For new users, it is recommended to consume only IQOS for 7 days and not mix it with the cigarette to get the full experience.

In our experience, consumers who do not smoke during the transition to IQOS are more likely to get used to the taste of HEETS, and cigarette smoke becomes discomforting for them.

Regular cleaning is recommended to ensure optimal taste & proper functioning of the device.

For the past 10 years, we have recruited scientists to work on developing an alternative to traditional smoking. Over 430 scientists and engineers at PMI’s global Research and Development center in Switzerland have developed and evaluated IQOS, an innovative tobacco and nicotine containing product. IQOS has gone through robust scientific assessments, including 18 non-clinical and 10 clinical studies to date.
